Personality; (For the record, while I do take some backstory elements from the Guardians of Childhood books due to the severe lack of backstory in the film, my portrayal is largely based on the film version and what I can extrapolate from that.)
As the Guardian of Memory, one of the things that is most important to Tooth above all else (other than the safety of children) are the memories of childhood. The important things that remind you of good times, good lessons, good friends. The people you loved and the things they taught you. And because she cannot guard in others what she cannot guard in herself, she treasures her memories. Her teeth were the first she kept safe, given to her by her parents to remind her of them when she needed strength and courage. She’s recalled those memories from her baby teeth many, many times over the years, to keep those memories fresh and brilliant, so that she can better guard the memories of every other person on the planet, and better know when those memories are important to bring back to a person later in their lives. Mementos and other nostalgic sorts of things mean a lot to her, and she’s always doing her best to remember things as accurately as possible - without rose colored glasses or anything.
Despite the young age she was when she began her tooth-collecting duties, Tooth is a naturally maternal person - if a bit on the “young mother” side. It’s integral to her job that she can be aware of when people need their childhood memories most, and with that comes a natural attention to emotional states and well-being. She’s also extremely protective, of children and her mini fairies (who help her get all done that she needs to do) especially. She can be a fierce warrior, and while she doesn’t think that violence is always the best option, when it is the only option (such as fighting an enemy that threatens the safety of children, who is not going to just back down) she is nearly fearless, zipping between enemies quick enough to be a blur. And while she doesn’t precisely hold a grudge, she will be sure that anyone who hurts those she cares about doesn’t get away scott free.
Aside from her fierceness, however, she is generally just a high-energy young woman (if you can take “young” with a grain of salt, of course). Her plumage and mini fairies all seem reminiscent of hummingbirds, and she has the never-still, always-energetic personality to go with that. With all of her abilities and the charges she has, that energy mainly gets channeled towards overseeing her fairies, directing them and celebrating first-lost (and well-cared-for) teeth. She tends to get very involved and excited about… well anything that is important to her. She’s industrious and hard-working, and not inclined to give up on a project despite any roadblocks she might hit. A downside of her excitable personality, however, is that in her excitement, she often forgets about things like “personal space”, going so far as to stick her fingers in Jack’s mouth without a word so that she can look at his beautiful teeth.
Speaking of Jack, while she treats him as a friend and has no real drive to pursue romance (even if she had the time), she does get a bit… fangirly, to be honest. She was still a teenager - on the line between childhood and adulthood - when she took up her duties, and while she is mature and chronologically old, in some ways she is still a bit of a teenager. She can be silly and girly and get a little swoony over a good-looking guy, regardless of her actual age.
The last really important thing to remember about Tooth is that while she loves kids and is a very caring maternal person, she’s also not the greatest at “social skills”, thanks to a few hundred years of hardly ever leaving her palace and interacting with anyone but the other guardians and her mini fairies. She can forget that not everyone finds things she enjoys as fascinating as she does, and while she means well and loves them deeply, sometimes she’s not always strictly the best with children. She’s getting back into the hang of things, but it’s a learning process, after all.
Samples;
[ Tooth smiles brightly at the camera - you’re totally used to seeing feathered women, right? ] This place is amazing! I can’t get around fast enough, there’s just so much!
[ she gets a little more business-like ] Now, I don’t know how many of you will know who I am, but I am the Tooth Fairy! Normally it would be my duty to collect the teeth that children lose and keep them safe, but I don’t have my powers here, and I can’t really do most any of my duties, even if this isn’t my world. Still, if there are any children here who have lost a tooth and would like to trade it for a little treasure of some sort, I would be happy to keep those teeth safe for them.
[ she ponders for a moment, then nods to herself ] Really, if there are any children here who need help of any kind, that’s… what I do. I help and protect children. So if any of you need anything at all, you can come to me and I promise to do my absolute best to help you.
[ She grins again ] And of course, everyone should come visit Jack’s skating rink! It’s very nice and lots of fun. Well, of course it’s fun, it’s Jack’s project. But you should really come, if you haven’t already. It’s wonderful.
